U12 and U14 League Competitions U12 – Dublin 30/03/08 Early Sunday morning the girls set off for UCD Dublin to participate in the U12 Championships prior to the ESB Irish Senior Cup (Ladies). They competed against Greenfield’s, Old Alex, Cof I, Galway, and Pembroke. The girls had a great day winning all their games with the lowest score line of 2-1. There was some great play and Cliona Kelly and Lucy Mulligan made a great scoring duo up front working well together, ably assisted by Orla Magee and Jordan McCluskey in midfield. Johanna Palnoch and Roya Laughlin had sterling performances in defence and Orla Lennon showed that she is capable of playing where ever called upon by defending and scoring when she stepped on to right wing. Jenny Cromie nursing a broken wrist was assistant coach and photographer for the day. The girls worked hard playing the games on a round robin basis with the max of a 20 minute break. So at the end of the games they were tired but ecstatic with their gamesmanship and winning way. Hospitality by IHA and UCD was excellent providing girls with VIP treatment. Presentation was made to all the teams of a T-shirt and memorabilia. On the way home we had great craic with Lurgan and Randalstown on the coach. For the girls it was about enjoyment, meeting new people and playing hockey also seeing what they could aspire too with hard work. U12 – Lisnagarvey 06/04/08 The second Sunday that the girls had an early rise for Champion’s Day at Garvey. However where we had a glorious day the week before, it was cold, wet and snow on the 6th. In the morning the girls were playing Omagh, Greenisland, Dromore, and Randalstown. They started sprightly drawing the first two games and then beating Dromore 1-0 which saw them progress into the afternoon series of matches. However as the weather started to take toll the girls drew against Randalstown which was a great result as on a previous Sunday they had been beaten. Snow then stopped play and unfortunately we all had to go home – end of the U12 League for 2007/08 season. U14 – Edenvilla The U14 league had its ups and downs. Without a steady team in trying to give everyone a game it was hard to get momentum going so next season we hope to enter two teams. We played 8 games winning 5 and losing 3 so in all we had a good run, beating Armagh, Portadown, Dromore B and losing to Lurgan and Dromore A taking a scalp out of them both by scoring against both teams - ably scored cracker penalty corner by Tara Malcolmson and from open play by Emma Gilpin. The games are 8 aside so the girls have to adapt their game and play space rather than position. |
